Many Christians often experience a lack of desire to pray, and it can leave us wondering why prayer sometimes feels like such a burden. Prayer is talking to God and developing our relationship with the Lord and it is vital to our spiritual well-being. Why does it seem so difficult at times to pray? I once had a dream that gave me insight into this struggle, and I believe it will shed light on why many of us don’t feel like praying, and how the enemy works to stop us from tapping into the immense power of prayer.
In the dream, I saw a group of little demon-like creatures having a meeting. They were discussing one of the most powerful tools we as Christians have—our prayers. The demons said, “Her prayers are so powerful, what can we do to stop her?” Their plan is to distract, discourage, and derail us from the very thing that has the potential to transform not only our lives but also our families, cities, and even nations.
This moment in the dream exposed a profound truth: demons fear the power of our prayers. Prayer is a direct line to God, and it holds the power to change circumstances, break strongholds, and bring transformation. When we engage in prayer, we are communicating with the Creator of the universe. We are aligning ourselves with God’s will and inviting His power to work in our lives. The enemy knows this, and he will stop at nothing to prevent us from praying.
One of the most common tactics the enemy uses to keep us from praying is distraction. Our lives are filled with so many distractions—work, social media, the demands of family, and more. But these distractions are often a strategic move by the enemy to keep our focus away from God. Demons know that if they can keep us busy and distracted, we will not take the time to pray, and thus, we miss out on the transformative power that prayer brings.
Another tactic the enemy uses is to make us believe that prayer is a burden. How many times have we come home after a long day at work, feeling exhausted, and heard the thought, “I’m too tired to pray right now”? The enemy plays on our fatigue and tells us that prayer is too much, that it will take more effort than we have to give. Instead of turning to God for the rest and peace we desperately need, we turn to counterfeits. We scroll through social media or watch hours of TV, thinking it will provide us with relaxation or satisfaction. Yet, this so-called “rest” is a counterfeit peace. It’s an illusion of peace that offers temporary relief but leaves us feeling empty.
When we choose distractions over prayer, we trade temporary satisfaction for eternal blessings from God. True peace, joy, and relaxation are found in God’s presence, not in the fleeting comforts of the world. The enemy’s goal is to keep us away from that peace by making prayer seem like a burden or something that is too hard to do. But the truth is, prayer is life-changing. It doesn’t just bring us closer to God—it changes the very atmosphere around us and it will turn our whole life around for the better.
So, the next time you don’t feel like praying, recognize that it’s not just a coincidence. It’s part of the enemy’s strategy to keep you from experiencing the power of prayer. Prayer is a weapon against the enemy, and when we engage in it, we unleash the power of God to work in our lives. Don’t let distractions, fatigue, or feelings of burden keep you from this powerful tool. Stand firm in prayer, knowing that it is through your prayers that true transformation happens.
Remember: demons are afraid of your prayers, and that’s why they’ll try everything to stop you. Keep praying, and keep pressing in. There’s nothing more powerful than the prayers of a believer. The most important and beautiful aspect of prayer is having an intimate relationship with the Lord. There shall be no more delays or procrastination. Let us learn from the example of Jesus Christ and pray daily. If you put God first, he will also put you first!
Here are a few Bible verses to meditate on:
Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray, so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.”
Psalm 16:11 “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
